John R. Garrett is an attorney with Patti, Hewitt & Arezina LLC where he focuses his practice primarily in the area of intellectual property law. His technical fields of experience include video graphic processing, data encryption, wireless systems, telecommunication systems, electronics, computers, and software.
Mr. Garrett formerly practiced with the intellectual property law firms of Welsh & Katz, Ltd., Banner & Witcoff, Ltd., and Markison & Reckamp, P.C. He previously was a shareholder with the intellectual property law firm of Hill & Simpson, P.C. Mr. Garrett also served as Group Patent Counsel with Gould, Inc. and as Patent Counsel with Square D Company. In addition, he was a Patent Agent and engineer with Zenith Radio Corp.
Mr. Garrett received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1979. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 1967. Also, Mr. Garrett received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1970 and an M.S. in Engineering Administration in 1971 from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Midwest College of Engineering). In addition, he is a registered professional engineer. Mr. Garrett is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
