Jack R. Penrod is an attorney with Patti, Hewitt & Arezina LLC where he focuses his practice primarily in the area of intellectual property law. His technical fields of experience include telecommunications, computer hardware, computer software applications, electrical power distribution equipment, feedback and control systems, robotics, acoustic devices, switching power supplies, semiconductor devices, and medical devices.
Mr. Penrod was formerly Corporate Counsel managing intellectual property for Lucent Technologies Inc. (1994-2001) and Senior Attorney for NCR Corporation (1987-1994), a predecessor corporation of Lucent. He was responsible for intellectual property matters pertaining to telecommunications switching systems, speech processing systems, and software applications. Mr. Penrod also served as lead attorney for evaluation of switching patents for licensing purposes. Previously, he practiced intellectual property law for Siemens AG (1984-1986) where he prosecuted patents and trademarks. In addition, Mr. Penrod has practiced in patent law firms and worked as an electrical engineer with the United States Naval Sea Command and Air Command (1969-1984) where he received a Letter of Commendation for his contributions to a new software test standard.
Mr. Penrod received his J.D. from Indiana University Law School in 1980, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1969. He completed the coursework for an M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1977. Mr. Penrod is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
